Stock Market Today Live, Share Market News: At 11 am, both Sensex and Nifty 50 continued its bull run on the back of strong investors sentiment. Sensex inched 2,023.64 points, or 2.73 per cent at 75,977.17 while Nifty 50 inched 609.70 points, or 2.71 per cent higher at 23,136.85.
Indian equity benchmark indices opened at record high on Monday with Nifty 50 advancing 3.58 per cent, or 807.20 points higher at 23,337.70 and Sensex trading 2,621.98 points, or 3.55 per cent higher at 76,583.30. On the similar lines, Nifty Bank opened above 50,000 for the first time ever post after exit polls suggested a stronger return for the PM Modi-led BJP government.
After boosted investor sentiments post exit poll, the Indian government bond yields dropped marginally. The benchmark 10-year yield was at 6.9541 per cent after previous close of 6.9809 per cent. Earlier today, indicating a strong bull run for the equity market, GIFT Nifty advanced 850.50 points, or 3.75 per cent higher at 23,538.50 at the time of opening bell. However, it dipped marginally to trade 608.50 points higher at 23,296.50.
All sectoral indices inched higher with PSU Banka and PSE indices being top gainers.
The currency market also witnessed a stronger start on the back of stronger equity markets. In the first trading session of this week, the Indian rupee opened at 82.99 against the US dollar. The rupee had closed 82.46 against the American currency on Friday. Dollar index, which measures greenback against six global currency, slipped 0.04 per cent lower at 104.63.
As per analysts, stock market will depend on two major events this week, the general elections result to be announced on June 4 and the RBI interest rate decision that will be announced by Governor Das on June 7.
Exit polls on Saturday predicted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will retain power for a third straight term, with BJP-led NDA winning anywhere between 350-401 seats.
Ahead of the first trading day in June, US stock futures closed on a mixed note Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) inched 574.84 points higher at 38,686.62 while Nasdaq Composite closed 2.06 points in red at 16,735.01. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 6.9 per cent, its best month since November 2023.
