Colorado Air National Guard to Conduct Flyovers on July 4, 2024

CENTENNIAL, Colo. — In celebration of Independence Day, the Colorado Air National Guard's 140th Wing will conduct a series of flyovers with their F-16C Vipers over various Colorado communities. These events will serve to honor the legacy of those who have defended the nation and to celebrate the freedoms enjoyed in the United States.

Schedule and Locations: The F-16C Vipers will take off from Buckley Space Force Base in Aurora, Colorado, around 10:30 a.m. and are expected to fly until 12:00 p.m. The scheduled flyovers and their respective times are as follows:

  • Independence Day Weekend Celebration, Lake City: 10:45 a.m.

  • Silverton 150 Year Celebration, Silverton: 10:50 a.m.

  • Rico 4th of July Parade, Rico: 10:53 a.m.

  • Telluride 4th of July Parade, Telluride: 11:00 a.m.

  • Redstone 4th of July Celebration, Redstone: 11:12 a.m.

  • Granby 4th of July Parade, Granby: 11:24 a.m.

  • Greeley Stampede Independence Day Parade, Greeley: 11:35 a.m.

  • 4th at Firestone, Firestone: 11:38 a.m.

The timings are approximate and may be subject to change or cancellation depending on weather conditions. Observers might also see the aircraft as they travel between these locations.

Purpose and Significance: Col. Jeremiah “Weed” Tucker, the 140th Wing Commander, highlighted the symbolic importance of these flyovers. He emphasized that the sound of the Vipers represents the vigilant defense provided by the Colorado Air National Guard, acting as guardians and defenders of both the state and the nation.

“These flyovers are symbolic of the ever-vigilant defense provided by the Colorado Air National Guard. We’re reminded of this as our aircraft thunder through the skies of Colorado as watchful guardians and defenders of state and nation,” said Col. Tucker.

Additional Information: The flyovers were requested by event coordinators at the various locations and coordinated through the U.S. Air Force’s Aerial Events Office in Washington, D.C. They are conducted at no extra cost to taxpayers and serve as training for the pilots.
